I just read the message from RoseAnn Bosco. Did they call your husband Skippy?? If so I remember him as well as you. I think you were friends of Richie Tolve and I am still best friends with his sister, Barbara. My brothers name is Sal and he is three years older than me - 58. I too am so proud and happy to have the childhood I had growing up in Harlem. I think next summer I will go to the feast and hopefully see some of my old friends. Also Stella Streppone sounds very familiar to me.

I went to this school during the late 50's early 60's and have nothing but fond memories. Unfortuantely, we moved to Queens in 1965 while I was in sixth grade with Sister Miriam Lawrence. I didn't get to graduate from this school and am hoping to find some of my school friends from back then. If anyone remembers me, I'd love to hear from you.

Fr. Z's website mentioned this church and the Tridentine Mass being celebrated there.
My husband was a novitiate with this order and spent time with Fr. Rofrano.
My husband, Dennis, had such good things to say about Fr. Rafrano and his time spent in New York.
I lapsed on sending Christmas cards - so never sent him one for the last few years.
The website said he died in May - but of what year?

My siblings and I went to OLMC in the early 70's and just recently my brother told me about the website. It brought back so many memories I was baptised and did my communion there. There are pictures of 115th st. where we had a clubhouse. I remember the feasts, the food and everyone was like family it's nice to know we do remember.

I went to the OLMC school and church for 8 years in the late 50's/early 60's The 9am Sunday Mass was compulsory and it was in Latin. The nuns would stand over us and use their clickers to get us in line, to kneel, and to shut us up. I loved following the mass in my missal. In the 2nd grade, we actually made our communion and our confirmation on the same weekend! In 1972 I was married here. Everytime I go back to visit this church I am humbled by its majesty and beauty; and saddened by its vacant pews. Thank God for the memories.

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel is such a beautiful church. I was baptized, received First Holy Communion, Confirmation and was married to Skip #22 Bosco on April 22, 1972 in this beautiful church. I enjoy coming down to the Feast and spending time in Church. I love seeing my grammar school classmates and other friends from the past. Growing up in Harlem and going to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel was a great way to grow up.

I really enjoyed your website!
My Godparents and their close lifetime friends (Italian/Sicilian) lived on 116 Street in a corner building right across the street from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.
-- Chris & Annette ("Netty"
Puma. They must have been there for 20 or 30 years. Does anyone recognize the names?
I recall attending the festivals, the carnival rides, the food and the processions. I also recall attending the Masses there during our other visits, fish traditionally on Fridays, etc.
I recall there being an Italian Social Club of some sort near the building to which he belonged.
This is going back to the 1970's. They moved to Co-Op City in the early 80's.
Your photo titled "The corner of Plesant ave and 116th street" seems to have been taken from that very building! Am I mistaking?
It is great that you are keeping this history alive. This is a real treat. Thank you for this great experience.
Sincerely,
Chris Lombardi
